Meet Saltsmith
We’re two childhood friends who grew up on Mount Desert Island, Maine, where the ocean wasn’t just scenery. It was our playground, our classroom, and the heart of island life.
Long before this business had a name, we were kids exploring Acadia's rocky shorelines, learning the tides, and falling in love with the cold waters that shape Downeast Maine. Those early years laid the foundation for the work we do today.
Simon built his early career on the water, captaining private vessels, harvesting oysters, and managing waterfronts with a steady confidence that only comes from years at the helm. Peter began his career in education before finding his way behind the raw bar, where years of shucking high-volume events sharpened both his craft and his love of sharing Maine oysters with others. Although our paths took different directions, they always led back to the water—and eventually back to each other.
Together, we blend maritime expertise, raw bar craftsmanship, and the kind of easy chemistry that only comes from a lifelong friendship. We’re hardworking, charismatic, and serious about our craft, but we never forget that we do what we do so your celebrations can be all the more joyful.
We bring the oysters, the energy, and a little bit of island magic to weddings, backyard gatherings, private venues, and coastal celebrations of all kinds. Our goal is simple: to help people slow down, connect, and savor the moment—ideally with a freshly shucked Maine oyster in hand.
To us, oysters aren’t just food. They’re a ritual. A gathering point. A bridge to the present. A taste of Maine. And we’re honored to share that spirit with those who choose to celebrate here.
The same cold, nutrient-rich Maine waters that shaped who we are continue to sustain the communities, livelihoods, and traditions we are proud to be part of today.
Although Saltsmith is in its first season, our business has been guided by its values from day one. We strive to create unforgettable, deeply personal experiences for our clients while operating with genuine care for Maine waters.
Those values influence every decision we make. We prioritize sourcing from local oyster farms, artisans, and distributors whenever possible, supporting fellow small businesses across Southern Maine. We also compost and recycle the materials used during our events, working to minimize our environmental footprint while maximizing the quality of every experience we create.
Giving back is part and parcel to our values. Which is why Saltsmith proudly donates 1% of our profits to the Maine Aquaculture Association (MAA), supporting its work to strengthen Maine's aquaculture industry through education, advocacy, and sustainable growth. Every event we serve on site helps invest in the future of Maine's working waterfronts and the health of the coastal ecosystems that make our oysters, and our way of life, possible.
